Columbus Council on World Affairs Hosts India Symposium
Lecture part of Consul General's August Columbus visit

COLUMBUS, OHIO. The Columbus Council on World Affairs hosted India’s New York Consul
General Prabhu Dayal on August 6, 2010 for a luncheon symposium. Mr. Dayal delivered
keynote remarks on the topic of India in the 21st Century, exploring key aspects of Indo-US
relations and outlining opportunities for future collaboration.

“Mr. Dayal’s talk highlighted the growing international recognition of India as an emerging
force in the world economy,” noted Sanjay Sadana, a prominent member of Columbus’ Indian
community and a lecture attendee. “With its emphasis on India’s focus on the five E’s –
economy, enterprise, education, energy and empowerment – the Consul General’s informative
presentation underscored the many similarities between the US and India. He also struck an
optimistic note regarding Indo-US / Indo-Ohio trade and cooperation, and fostered the spirit
of continuing dialogue between the two nations.”

Mr. Dayal’s insight was timely for attendees, framing important themes related to President
Obama’s scheduled visit to India in November of this year. His remarks also provided context
to related local issues such as the planned Ohio State Gateway presence in New Dehli.
Columbus is home to a thriving Indian population.

The symposium was part of the Council’s Distinguished Lecture Series, which highlights topics
of international relevance in our community. The program was presented by Kegler Brown Hill
& Ritter with support from Columbus Sister Cities International, the Federation of Indian
Associations, The Ohio State University and the United Nations Association-USA Columbus
Chapter. Mr. Dayal addressed an audience of nearly 80 attendees at the Athletic Club
of Columbus.

“India is always a topic of interest among our members and patrons,” commented Patrick Terrien,
Council President & CEO. “We were happy to participate in the Consul General’s visit to Columbus
and thank all of our community partners.”
