International Educator of the Year






The Council annually presents an International Educator of the Year award to a Central Ohio K-12 educator whose commitment to international education and awareness serves as a stellar example to their students, colleagues and local community. Past honorees include Lee Link (Eastland-Fairfield Career and Technical Schools), Kyle Tong (Columbus Academy), Natalie Mroz (Bexley MS), Robin Hren (Mount
Vernon HS), Bobbie Mucha (Westerville South HS), Steve Shapiro (The Christopher Program), Timothy Dove (McCord MS), Shelley Charity (The Christopher Program), and Patricia Fellinger-Reyes (Upper Arlington HS). The Council presented the 2011 award to Todd Decker-Kaplonski of Mifflin High School for his work integrating diverse voices into student theater performances for the benefit of the youth actors and their audiences.

The selection process for the 2012 education honoree is currently underway. This year, we are asking teachers, parents, students, and the general public to nominate a particular International Education Project facilitated by an educator or team of educators. The Award is presented at the International Awards Ceremony, which also recognizes an outstanding company/organization. More than 600 business, civic and academic leaders join the Council in bestowing these honors. The Ceremony is the Council’s highest profile event, serving as the primary fundraiser and “friendraiser”, with more than 80% of funds going directly to support educational programs for students, teachers, and the community. The Ceremony also highlights a community group, featuring an element of live entertainment. Past groups include the Jazz Arts Group, Ballet Met, Columbus Zoo & Aquarium and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.
