Graduating World Class Students: Singapore’s Success

Ohio 4-H Center

2201 Fred Taylor Dr., Columbus, OH 43210

Speaker: Mr. Ashok Kumar Mirpuri

The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) is a triennial international survey which evaluates education systems worldwide by testing the skills and knowledge of 15-year-old students in reading, math, and science. In the most recent assessment, published in 2012, Singapore’s education system ranked 2nd overall, while the U.S. ranked 36th.

Nevertheless, while Singapore’s education system has succeeded in traditional measures, the country is looking beyond its borders to identify best practices in developing critical and creative thinking skills among its students. Singapore wants its students to master 21st century skills that demand flexibility in a changing environment while not losing the overall academic rigor.
