Take Action Project on Digital Dating Abuse featured on 10TV
Lillian Hammer, of Westerville North High School, devoted her capstone project of the Global Scholars Diploma Program Curriculum to the study and addressing of digital dating abuse, a phenomenon taking root in young people across America.
The the advancement of mobile technology and social media applications has opened a door for many to be connected with friends and loved ones. The world has been connected in ways it has never been before, and for some, this allows for more sinister methods of “staying in touch.”
Digital dating abuse is the phenomenon where someone uses technology to abuse a partner. This can lead to stalking, bullying, intimidation It is a growing concern in Central Ohio, with a reported 101% increase in instances from 2019 to 2020.
Lillian’s project was taken notice by Angela An of WBNS 10TV and was interviewed on this issues earlier this year. Lillian went on to complete her project, fulfilling the requirements to earn the Global Scholars Diploma. She among close to 200 other central Ohio high school students graduated from the program on April 19th, 2022.
