New Heights

The Columbus Council on World Affairs reached new heights throughout 2023, setting the stage for even greater horizons this year.

The organization continues to grow and support global competence in central Ohio and has embarked on many new initiatives that support the organization’s educational programs. We’re thrilled to expand our team with a new Program Coordinator, have launched a new Global Scholars Alumni Mentoring Program, celebrated the grand opening of the new GSD apparel store, and introduced a new scholarship opportunity with Otterbein University.

The organization is also proud to have welcomed two new high schools to our Global Scholars Diploma Program, Columbus Academy and Johnstown Monroe. The program is growing as there has never been a more important time to become globally connected than now.

Mentor Program

As students moved into the autumn and back-to-school season, we excitingly announced that CCWA is initiating a Global Scholars Alumni Mentoring Program.

This program stemmed from conversations and discussions held at the first annual alumni event which took place in July. This offers Year 3 Global Scholars the option to meet with a mentor to help them with their Take Action Projects. This also helps reintroduce alumni into the program while fostering a powerful network of globally focused citizens. Mentors will meet with Year 3 students either once a month, once a quarter, or one time overall.

Otterbein Scholarship

In recognition of the opportunities provided by the CCWA, Otterbein University has introduced a special scholarship to recognize students’ efforts in completing the Global Scholars Diploma.

Starting Fall 2024, students who have earned or who will have earned a diploma from the CCWA are eligible for a $19,000 scholarship to Otterbein University. Students must enroll full-time, at least 12 credit hours and the scholarship is renewable for up to eight semesters.

This scholarship replaces any other merit scholarships/awards and requires a 2.75 GPA required for renewal.

There are several ways to support the Columbus Council on World Affairs for those looking to give back. Consider making a one-time or recurring donation, become a corporate donor or mission partner, or simply tell your friends and family about our mission and programs.
