Global Scholars: More Important than Ever Before
Over the last year, the Columbus Council on World Affairs' biggest concern was serving our students through the Global Scholars program. How can we expose students to the world, when many could not even leave their houses? What we realized though, was that this pandemic highlighted the importance of the Global Scholars Diploma Program.
The Global Scholars Diploma Program: A Glimpse At Our Community
The end of the Global Scholars Diploma 2019/2020 year was a memorable one. While the global pandemic forced schools to shut down in March, and the final GSD events of the year were forced to cancel, our Year 3 Global Scholars students continued to make a difference in their local communities.
Global Scholars Diploma: The Beginning of a New Academic Year
The Global Scholars year began on September 4th with nearly 300 Year 3 students attending an orientation workshop to begin work on their Take Action projects, the capstone to the Global Scholars Diploma program where students choose a global issue and implement a local tangible solution in their communities.
Global Scholars Diploma: Year in Review
In May we concluded another successful year of the Global Scholars Diploma program and graduated over one hundred fifty students whose Take Action projects will continue to change the world beyond the 2018-2019 school year. Global Scholars Update: Working with Community Partners
In January, the Global Scholars Diploma program partnered with Community Refugee and Immigration Services (CRIS). Volunteers from CRIS led our Level 2 students through a cultural simulation that focused on building awareness around some of the barriers that New Americans face.
Highlight on a Global Scholar
Brooklin Williams is a senior at Marion Harding High School and a third year Global Scholar student. As a third-year student, Brooklin is required to complete a Take Action project as the capstone piece of the Global Scholars Diploma program. The Take Action projects are executed independently by Global Scholars students with the guidance of a CCWA advisor.
Global Scholars Career Day: A Day at Commercial Vehicle Group
This fall, our 2nd Year Global Scholars Diploma students were given the opportunity to explore new perspectives on global careers at Commercial Vehicle Group (CVG) in New Albany. CVG is a leading supplier of commercial vehicle component systems globally and has facilities across four continents.
GSD Starts Year with Cultural Dialogues
The Global Scholars Diploma program kicked off the start of the school year with 500 new students for a total of nearly 1200 students in the program. These new students joined us for half-day sessions in downtown Columbus to explore an enormous question: what is culture?
